Ingredients:

  • Loose black tea or black tea bags (1 teaspoon or 1 tea bag per cup)
  • Fresh, cold water
  • Sugar, honey, milk, or lemon (optional)

    Equipment:
  • Teapot or kettle
  • Cup or mug
  • Tea strainer (if using loose tea)

Instructions:

1. Boil Water

  • Heat fresh, cold water in a kettle until it reaches a rolling boil (around 200°F-212°F or 93°C-100°C).
  • For best results, avoid reboiling water, as it can affect the flavor.

2. Warm Your Cup or Teapot (Optional)

  • Rinse your teacup or teapot with hot water to warm it. This helps the tea maintain its temperature longer.

3. Add the Tea

  • Loose tea: Use about 1 teaspoon of loose black tea per cup. Place the tea in a tea strainer or infuser, or add it directly to the teapot.
  • Tea bags: Use 1 tea bag per cup.

4. Steep the Tea

  • Pour the boiling water over the tea leaves or tea bag.
  • Let the tea steep for 3-5 minutes.
    • For a lighter flavor, steep for a shorter time.
    • For a stronger brew, steep for longer, but avoid oversteeping to prevent bitterness.

5. Strain and Serve

  • Remove the tea bag or strain the loose tea leaves.
  • Serve hot.

6. Add Flavorings (Optional)

  • Sweeten with sugar, honey, or a sweetener.
  • Add a splash of milk for creaminess or a slice of lemon for brightness.
  • Experiment with spices (e.g., cinnamon, cardamom) for a unique twist.
